FINAL ADVERT

DRAFT ADVERTS

I decided to change my Advert numerous times to allow my final product to have the conventions of a real media product. Within my first draft I had a grey, brick-like background to hinder to my audience that my docuemntary was of a crime genre. I used the same image for both of my drafts. Initally, I thought the image was effective as the low angle shot looked like both of the models were looking down at the camera, giving them a sense of authority. Direct address within a poster/advert is also important for engaging an audience as they feel like they are being looked at. However, from peer feedback about the making of my draft adverts, I was told the image didn't look effective as it didn't fill the page, when I tried to enlarge the image, the models became distorted and looked out of proportion. From this, I changed my advert from portrait tolandscape, allowing me to have more space for my images. In addition to this, I changed the photograph to a mid-body shot, with the Journalist/Presenter looking directly at the camera while the Prisoner was looking away. This not only shows the different status' between the two people, but it is also more clear to see who is the main protagonist within the documentary (The Journalist, Luke Smith). I decided to change my background into a deep purple/black brick-background which ultimately symbolises how prison is a trapped and iscolated place. I also changed the background to make my advert sppear more darkening and ambigious to what my documentary was going to entail. Within my Draft Adverts I began creating tattoo's on the prisoners arm. From feedback I was told this looked realistic and that it fitted the genre of my documentary. When changing my draft main image into the new one, I found it easier to edit on tattoo's onto the new image as the postioning of the model was better, this also allowed me to place tattoo's on his neck, a typical place where in-mates have their tattoo's. I chose to place the text inside a red box as red is an engaging colour and also contrasted against the background

FINAL DPS

DRAFT DPS

When creating my DPS, I wanted to add certain elements to it to hinder that the documentary being advertised is of a crime genre. On my draft DPS, I used a simple grey background, similary to one I used within my draft advert. However, after I had placed my images and text onto the dps, it looked empty and not very appealing. I changed the background into prison cell bars. This allowed for my DPS to look more full and visually pleasing. The black and white background contrasted agaisnt the red, yellow and grey text boxes, a critical convention of a DPS. I placed my main image on the right hand side of the page, this was to allow for more text and information to be placed on the page rather than it having to be placed around the image placed directly in the middle of the page. On my draft DPS i didn't add my institution logo, page number or web address, these are important aspects to a dps as it gives additional information to the reader. On my new DPS, I added a short description of what the first episode will include and also information about when the first episode will first air on TV.
